If so you may be interested in Rolling Road Training (RRT) an innovative new concept created by Keith Richards Consulting.

RRT combines training with consultancy so that you can be trained 'on the job' in a live working environment. The result is the creation of real project deliverables such as a plan or a review document, whilst at the same time adding to and enhancing skills and competencies.

How does it work? 

We work with you during the key events of a project such as when a team is creating a timebox or sprint plan.  The team is steadily taken through a session which runs in either TRAINING mode or in LIVE mode.

When in live mode the team are creating an actual deliverable that will be used after the session. The KRC facilitator may stop the session at any point and put it into training mode in order to deliver key tips and learning points but particularly to explain the rationale behind them.

How much is training and how much is creating a real deliverable?

This depends on the needs of the people involved but as a general rule the ratio will be 50:50. As each key learning point comes up in the live environment the session will switch into training mode for as long as it takes to enable a realistic chance to transfer the skills across to the participants.

What is the end result from a RRT session like this?

The result is that a team or group of people can gradually build a plan that can be used 'in anger' whilst understanding how it was done so they can perhaps fly solo on any subsequent sessions.

What about normal classroom based training?

KRC believe that classroom based training in a neutral environment is the preferred method of training people but if you need to move quickly and you need the help 'yesterday' then perhaps RRT can act as the next best thing.

What sort of sessions would RRT be useful for?

Examples would cover such things as requirements gathering, project kick-offs, planning, risk analysis, reviews/retrospectives (for prototypes, documents, timeboxes, projects).
